Some Farmers from communities across five Local Government Areas (LGA) of Kaduna State have decried incessant killings and kidnap of their members by bandits terrorising the state.
This, they noted was preventing access to their farmlands and an inability to contribute their quota to agriculture development.
The farmers, whose groups cut across Kajuru, Mararaban Rido, Kachia, Kargoro, Kawo and Zaria, on Saturday, said bandits have caged them and prevented them from going to their farms, however called for lasting solution to security issues in Nigeria.
Speaking, the Chairman, Ibrahim Mustapha, said the farmers may be forced to carry arms, if security challenges persist without a solution.
The development, he added, became necessary after the farmers had spent eight days at home without going to the farm due to insecurity.
Mustapha explained that since 2015 when bandits spread across the state, they have not been free to go to their farms as they would have loved to, saying the unfortunate situation has affected their production capacity and income.
He said, “Since 2015, when bandits took over Kaduna and its environs, we have been afraid of going to the farm. They have kidnapped many of our people and we have paid huge amounts as ransom.
“Some have been killed, while those who managed to pay the ransom have remained in abject poverty till now.”
Mustapha, therefore, urged security agencies to intensify efforts in combating criminal activities and dislodge the bandits.
